Rip Rich Nichols

Grav and The Roots

From 1999 to April 2014, I have had the pleasure of getting many calls from Rich Nichols about album cover artwork for The Roots. Many times he fought for me to do the covers even when the label wanted to go in-house and it’s that type of loyalty that you no longer see in this business. To be a manager of a band for over 2 decades lets you know what kind of man he was. It will be impossible to work on another Roots album and not feel like something is missing. Even on the latest album, he managed to convince the label of not censoring the work.  Unbeknownst to me, he probably did all this from his hospital bed. His last email to me on April 17 2014 at 12:10pm, I quote,  “You know how we do my dude.”

Yeah, Rich, we all know how you do.

And we will never forget it.
